A subsidiary of Caritas Swaziland, Hope House is a Hospice and Palliative Care Centre situated in Manzini- the Hub of Swaziland. It opened its doors in 2001 at the height of the HIV and AIDS pandemic that ravaged Swaziland and threatened livelihoods of many other countries in Sub-Sahara Africa.

Palliative care is an approach that improves the quality of life of patients and their families facing the problem associated with life-threatening illness, through the prevention and relief of suffering by means of early identification and impeccable assessment and treatment of pain and other problems. Hope House is the only sanctuary in the kingdom that admits and provides accommodation to terminally ill and chronically ill patients.

At Hope House there are 25 homes where we admit and care for patients. There is also a program to train caregivers who assist in caring for their sick relatives at the Hospice and when they eventually return home. Hope house has also a very vibrant relationship with schools, colleges and universities in the country. Students come here to do their internships for a few weeks while those at the primary school levels come to do community service such as cleaning the grounds, cutting grass and taking care of the garden

Resources to run the facility generally come from local people of good will and corporate entities. Normally, the donation basket consists of money, food and clothes. Most patients who come to Hope House cannot afford to pay because they have exhausted most of or all their savings seeking medical assistance prior to coming to Hope House. Unfortunately, Hope House is always the last resort. In its history of 17 years in operation, no one has ever been turned away because they could not afford to pay.

Where ever you are you can become a friend of Hope House. And if ever you visit Swaziland, we invite you to visit Hope House to see that people still do care for others, but over and above that, come and see the love of God in action.
